Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) is a non-profit organisation that nurtures our people by giving them space to discover their sense of purpose and empowering them to contribute effectively towards the stewardship of our world. Our flagship programme, Balik Kampung (Malay for “return to the village”) since 2008, has attracted thousands of volunteers from all walks of life. Located in Yishun, north on the island city-state of Singapore, many have come to the Kampung Kampus to experience for themselves GUI’s approach in sustainable living and a hands-on culture. Today, GUI has embarked on building the Kampung Kampus, a nature-inspired and low-carbon footprint campus. We are pioneering a new way of learning, strengthening communities and nurturing more grounded leaders based on our "Thinker~Warrior~Farmer"​ philosophy. This experience is pioneered through the platforms of experiential education, natural farming, and woodcraft. From a spartan 100 sq metres of concrete space to 2.6 hectares of lush land, this is a community-involved project that continues to encourage GUI’s call for A Beautiful Connection with the Earth & Community.
