Hans, a simple youth, begins his journey home with his wages – a large lump of gold. Instead of guarding it with his life, and rushing to his village, cheerful Hans takes his time, bartering his fortune for goods of less-and-less value until he is left with the elated feeling of having no burdens to carry.
