To spread the Spirit of Mountaineering throughout the NUS Community and beyond. We were founded in 2001 by members of Singapore’s First Everest Team, key members include Dr Robert Goh and Mr Edwin Siew, when they decided to pass on their mountaineering skills and passion to our inaugural batch of members through the ‘Make it Real’ program. The rest is history. To date, our community has climbed mountains all over the world. Highlights include the NUS Centennial Everest Expedition and the Singapore Women’s Everest Expedition. Today, our mission to spread the spirit of mountaineering throughout the NUS community are being realised through our regular mountaineering courses and trips. In recent years, NUS students have climbed in the Himalayas, Alps and Tian Shan mountain ranges. We are proud to have, every semester, sent NUS’s aspiring mountaineers overseas to learn mountaineering skills and ignite their passion for the mountains. Many of our alumni have grown their passion for mountains and embarked on more challenging and exciting climbs, even beyond their years as a student. We hope that through the NUS Mountaineering Club, we can continue to “Make it Real” for student community and encourage those who have climbed with us to continue this exciting lifestyle and share their experiences with future generations.
